Health: A new school of thought says good fat isn’t a dietary demon

The fat has long been sucked out of our food in the name of health. Rani Sheen weighs the newest thinking on good fat.

Imagine a world where you got to the front of the coffee shop line and didn’t feel compelled to say the word “skinny” before the word “latte.” Or where, facing down the legions of yogurt options at the grocery store, your hand bypassed the zero per cent Greek yogurt, landing instead on the full-fat version. The idea that fat is bad for us has become so all-pervasive that it is now fixed firmly in our minds that full-fat dairy, bacon or even a hefty serving of avocado are flabby demons waiting to send chub to our waists and clog our arteries. But a growing school of thought is suggesting that actually, it isn’t fat that makes us fat.

There seems to be a direct correlation between the amount of time since we last saw Kate Middleton in public and the number of “royal sources” who are more than willing to share reports about our dear Duchess of Cambridge. Case in point: we’ve seen barely a glimpse of Kate since December (a surprise TV appearance was barely satisfying and zoom-lens shots from Christmas provided little intel) and the rumours are running rampant.

Downton Abbey Recap: We look back at the tiaras, feather headdresses and Blossom hats in the season 3 premiere!

After a long, agonizing and spoiler-avoiding wait since we watched Matthew Crawley propose to Mary outside in the glistening snow, we’ve been rewarded with the Downton Abbey season three premiere! Last night’s two-hour episode featured all the hallmark plotline teasers of a premiere episode, providing plenty of shades of the season to come (Flirting! Cancer! Being poor!). It also featured some seriously amazing fashion statements, from fancy headwear to embroidered gowns and new, stylish 1920s attire. Naomi Campbell Victim of Attempted Mugging

NAOMI CAMPBELL was the victim of an attempted mugging as she sat in a Paris limousine in November - contrary to recent speculation that she was violently attacked while trying to hail one of the city's taxis. A police report confirmed that the incident took place on November 21 in Rue de Moussy, in the Marais district.

Missoni Boss Missing After Plane Vanishes

MISSONI boss Vittorio Missoni and his wife, Maurizia Castiglioni, are missing, after a small plane carrying the couple disappeared off the coast of Venezuela mid-morning on Friday. The pair were among six people on board the flight from the archipelago of Los Roques towards Caracas' Maiquetia airport. A search is currently in operation.

Downtonians rejoice! Downton Abbey returns this weekend with the premiere of its third season. While the season has already aired in the U.K. (causing us to avoid all and every online mention of Downton Abbey for fear of spoilers) we’ve been eagerly anticipating its North American debut ever since season two ended last February.

Prince William is thinking of giving Kate Middleton a £5 million house for her 31st birthday

Kate Middleton’s 31st birthday is next week and, right on schedule, there’s a fresh batch of rumours about what her husband has planned for the big day. Well, we hope Kate stays off the internet until January 9 if she wants to be surprised: Royal sources are claiming that Prince William is on the hunt for a house. Of course, given that he’s the Duke of Cambridge and she’s the Duchess, this isn’t any ordinary piece of real estate. Kate Middleton’s birthday gift is said to be in the £5 million range, as the royal couple want a home on a property so large that it will trump the prying eyes of curious paparazzi and zoom-lens cameras. (Remember what happened in France?)
