Summer (a.k.a. patio drinking season) is upon us, which means that
the likelihood that you'll be staying up past your bedtime on school
nights ranges from 30% (Tuesdays) to 70% (Thursdays). If you've suddenly
found yourself in the market for a stellar under-eye circle zapper, a
magic eye de-puffing product or even just some miraculous concealer that
makes you look as though you spent a quiet evening at home, drinking
water and watching French documentaries (as opposed to, say, watching
the clock strike twelve while enjoying some al fresco libations with
some rowdy friends), you've come to the right place.
As both the weather and my social calendar have warmed up, Estee Lauder's Idealist Cooling Eye Illuminator
has become my newest makeup bag bestie. Slightly tinted and totally
soothing, it brightens up my eyes without making them look sparkly or
heavy with product. And every morning I dab some on, I think:
A) Oh man, this makes my skin feel like butter. Like fancy French butter. I'm hungry.
B) I did not need that last glass of chardonnay.
C) I wonder if it's possible to bathe in this. As in take a bath. In a pool of Eye Illuminator. Never mind, that's a gross idea. I need coffee.
D) I've gotta tell the blog ladies about this. It's like the real deal. Is anyone else using this? Jeez, it's fantastic.

And so here I am. Sharing and caring, all about it. And since I
figured I wasn't the only happy hour-loving lady who'd tracked down an
under-eye savoir, I polled some of our in-house beauty experts to find
out what kinds of eye cream saviors they're swearing by this season.
Here are some of the names they dropped:
"My new fave is La Metier de Beaute Classic Flawless Finish Concealer. A makeup artist just used it on my dark circles and it was legit
spackle. Like, facelift-level fixing. Yes, it's a little pricey, but
you only need a teensy amount to look like you got 10+ hours of sleep."
— Carrie Henderson, Assistant Beauty Editor
"For concealer, I like Benefit Erase Paste.
(This is for those who are blessed with some serious dark circles.) If
you get the right color for your skintone, it really masks the heck out
of a tired under-eye.
And for brightening products, I’m obsessed with Clinique’s new Age Defense Bb Cream.
It’s a tinted primer with SPF 30—pretty much everything I want on a hot
summer day. I’ve been stopped no fewer than 3 times by friends who
wanted to know what the heck I’ve been doing to my skin to make it look
so glowy." — Anne Sachs, glamour.com Editorial Director
"In the eye de-puffing department, my absolute favorite is Boscia's Super-Cool De-Puffing Eye Balm.
It's so tiny that I can keep it in my purse and apply it every morning
when I'm out the door & in a hurry. It comes in a twist-up tube
(kind of like lip balm) and is so easy to just swipe around my eye area
whenever I feel like it. It has a great cooling effect and always leaves
my skin feeling soft." — Julianne Carell, Beauty Assistant
"I am full-blown obsessed with this wonder called Double Feature by Lorac.
It comes in a dual-sided tube with a creamy concealer on one end (which
I’m unhealthily addicted to) and a highlighter with a doe foot
applicator on the other. I literally cannot (and will not)
leave the house without it. It erases my dark circles and gives me a
goddess-y, I-totally-didn’t-stay-in-the-office-’til-midnight glow. Who
needs sleep?!" — Elaine Welteroth, Senior Beauty Editor
"I've had obsessions with a lot of different eye products over the years but right now I'm madly in love with Maybelline's Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer.
There are several other shimmery wands out there like it, but this is
the only one that really melts into my skin, never gets cakey and makes
the darkness under my eyes disappear on contact. Love!" — Beth Shapouri, High Priestess of the Girls in the Beauty Department*
So there you have it, ladies: the magicians of the under-eye world
and the perfect plus-one for your late-night revelries. (These
references are getting a little Game of Thrones, huh? Better wind things
down and hand over the mic to you guys.) Does anyone else use (and
swear by) these bad boys? (And yes, some of them are pricey. But so are
bar tabs! Plus, these babies will last the whole summer and make you
feel great in the A.M., unlike those wine spritzers.) Do you have any
nominations for The Best Under-eye Cream Award?
